چکیده

Abstract — Bioaugmentation, i.e., increasing the abundance of certain microorganisms in community by adding appropriate cells or establishing conditions promoting their growth, is widely used environmental technologies. Its application for launching anammox reactors usually limited to introduction bacteria. We expected addition nitrifiers during bioreactor stimulate process due rapid production nitrite, which bacteria use ammonium oxidation. The present work investigated effect a nitrifying on composition and activity microbial an reactor. At time inoculation laboratory SBR reactor, active (5 days old) (ASB) (bioaugmenting activated sludge, ASB) containing group I nitrifiers, primarily Nitrosospira , was added (1 : 100 biomass) sludge (ASA) stored 1 month at 4°C exhibiting low metabolic activity. ASB resulted increased efficiency nitrogen removal. While noticeable removal control (7%) observed since day 11 incubation, experimental reactor began 4 level 20%. Nitrogen after 30 incubation ~60% experiment 20% control. rate oxidation presence (during first 10 operation) genus Brоcadia were already ASA (throughout all period operation). Activity II (genera Nitrobacter Nitrococcus ), ASB, prevented accumulation high concentrations toxic both High introduced with probably provided one substrates (nitrite), growth. During subsequent operation Nitrosomonas from initial mainly responsible growth Thus, bioaugmentation loading significantly improved via accelerated transition working mode.

A Comparative Study of the Efficiency of Granular Activated Sludge and Common Activated Sludge in the Removal of Chromium (VI) from Synthetic Solutions

Introduction: Aerobic granules as a novel type of bio-sorbent have an excellent settling ability and high-porosity structure. This study investigated the feasibility of aerobic granules for chromium (VI) removal from synthetic aqueous solution and compare it with conventional activated sludge. Method: In this research the effect of some important parameters including pH (5, 7, and 9), initial c...

Nitrifying bacterial community structure of a full-scale integrated fixed-film activated sludge process as investigated by pyrosequencing.

Nitrifying bacterial community structures of suspended and attached biomasses in a full-scale integrated fixed-film activated sludge process were investigated by analyzing 16S rRNA gene sequences obtained from pyrosequencing. The suspended biomass had a higher number of ammoniaoxidizing bacterial sequences (0.8% of total sequences) than the attached biomass (0.07%), although most of the sequenc...

This investigation was designed to evaluate the effects of bioaugmentation on maintaining the system stability under shock loading conditions, standardizing the effluent, and improving the sludge settlement. In this study, phenol was chosen as a model of mono-aromatic compounds which are found commonly in many industrial wastewaters, especially petroleum refineries and the petrochemical industr...
